What’s old is new again! London’s Newport Electric formed in 2014 forging a sound they call “roots rock”. Since then they have gone on to record three full albums, have been showcased on CBC, have won London’s highest award for “Best Rock Artist” twice (2019 & 2023), have had their songs played on radio stations across the country and their albums have received glowing reviews in Canada, the U.S. and Europe. 

As one reviewer put it, “they sound like your favourite jukebox. Their songs are new and fresh, but have a warm and familiar feeling to them”. 

By incorporating styles from their musical heroes of the 60’s and 70’s, it’s no wonder they are often compared to Blue Rodeo, Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen, The Rolling Stones and others of that ilk. 

If you are a fan of well crafted songs with lyrical depth, Newport Electric is exactly the band for you. Their tagline is “working hard to be your second favourite band”, but once you hear them they may be your first. 

Oh, and the name? It’s a nod to a monumental moment in music history (hint: July 25th, 1965…Google it!).
