Is a Canadian federally incorporated not-for-profit organization whose primary objective is to collect and distribute royalties to musicians and vocalists. MROC distributes the performer’s share of neighbouring rights and private copying royalties. These royalties primarily flow from the broadcast and public performance of sound recordings and are based on tariffs approved by the Copyright Board of Canada. MROC represents more than 6500 musicians, from session players to featured artists, recording across the full range of genres.

Breaking Down Racial Barriers
CIMA and ADVANCE recognize this moment in time as a MOVEMENT, and are seizing the opportunity to have difficult, yet critical conversations in an effort to identify the structures and behaviours that perpetuate anti-Black racism within the music entertainment industry. After listening to the experiences and the lessons contained therein, the accumulated knowledge will be used to compile a report containing ACTIONABLE suggestions for CHANGE. It is hoped that this report will be utilized by peer & partner organizations and the wider community in correcting anti-Black racism within their spaces. This is not to be viewed as a checklist exercise and will lead organizations far beyond simple performative allyship. Accountability is key.

Very active in promoting and educating the public on their services. Members are publishers and songwriters. The majority of well-known Canadian singer/songwriters are SOCAN members such as Tom Cochrane, Shania Twain, etc. The SOCAN board is half publishers, half songwriters. There must be a set number of Francophone board members, plus a mix of major and independent publishers.
